INTERNATIONAL RECORD DAY STORE TRIBUTE. TEN FAMOUS DOGS WHO LITERALLY ROCKED ALBUM COVERS

As a tribute to the International Record Day Store, today Almost Famous will feature the top 10 coolest album covers portraining dogs.

Now when you think rock ‘n roll cover art you probably think of hot babes, fast cars, leather, guitars…but some artists don’t go for such conventional and clichéd imagery. These musicians are so proud of these pups that they feature them instead. Have fun listening to the songs too.

We are going to head down to Mojo Record Store for some good tunes, cocktails and hopefully to find some hidden vynil gems.

10. Beastie Boys – Some Old Bullshit

This compilation of early Beastie Boys tracks features “team mascot” Samson on the cover. The giant golden retriever was Adam Yauch (MCA’s) childhood pup. When asked what the coolest thing about Samson was, Yauch answered “That I could get in my sleeping bag or on a mattress and slide down the stairs, and he would attack me.”

9. Sublime - Sublime

Sublime's mascot was Lou Dog, the dalmatian pal of late lead singer Bradley Nowell. He adopted the abused dalmatian puppy from a shelter and named him "Louie" after his grandfather. Also referred to as "Lou Dog", the dog became something of a mascot for the band." He also appeared on several other covers

8. Beck - Odelay (1996)

The photo of this gorgeously moppy Komondor at play was apparently an eleventh-hour image selection for this cover. It captures a joy and a boundless energy that is also mirrored in Beck’s music.

7. Dinosaur Jr. - Whatever is Cool with me (1991)

One of the most acclaimed Dinosaur Jr albums. The image perfectly matches the album title. When they say "a picture is worth a thousand words"...

6. Nelson - Becasue They Can

This album cover was not well received making it on a list of the "Worst Album Covers of All Time. We actually this it's very cool and self-deprecating. It was shot by William Wegman a famous photographer pawpular for his funny portraits of Weimaraners. His work has been shown at the Brooklyn Museum, L.A. County Museum of Art and the Smithsonian.

5. Rick Springfield - Working Class Dogs (1981)

"Working Class Dog," by Rick Springfield came out in 1981 and the dog was actually Rick's pup named Ronnie, who died in 1994. Rick Springfield has a huge place in his heart for his fur babies, even putting his bull terrier Ronnie on the cover of his most famous album. Rick and Ronnie had such a special bond that when the pup passed away, the musician got a tattoo of a hawk (which represents Ronnie’s spirit) on his shoulder.

4. Rick Springfield - Success hasn't spoiled me yet (1982)

Ronnie was also the star of his follow up album "succes hasn't spoilrd me yet".. maybe it's all part of good karma.. or maybe he just work cheap.

3. Stone Temple Pilots - Hollywood Bitch (2001)

"Hollywood Bitch" is a song by the American rock band Stone Temple Pilots. It is the second & final single from the group's fifth studio album, Shangri-La Dee Da.

2. Squeeze - Domino (1998)

Domino is the 12th studio album from the New Wave British group snd the first one to be released independently career struggling with various major labels. , after Domino is a 1998 album by the British new wave group Squeeze. The album was negetively received from fans and critics as a weak effort, marred by time constraints and increasing friction between the two songwriters. However, here at Almost Famous we think the cover is pretty awesome.

1. Weezer - Raditutde (2009)

Weezer’s lead singer found this photo of Sydney the dog in an issue of National Geographic. Sydney’s owner describes him as “a dog who loves to jump” and the band was impressed by the photo they had their label contact the owner and get permission to use it on the album.
